Why is there a need to support (however reluctantly) either side in this conflict? It strikes me as a false dilemma. Even if all you are trying to do is identify the lesser of two evils, it seems futile to do so in the case of nation-states (or dispossessed peoples), due to the complex nature of such entities. (If an individual consciousness is a gappy patchwork, how much more non-unitary must a country be?) It's like asking which country is worse: Canada or Sweden?
