Matt Re "
Sex During Menstruation"

Just to take a Devil's advocate position, but you don't really see heterosexuals having parades supporting the right to have sex during a menstrual cycle. Bumper stickers do not proclaim a human being's right to partake in this activity. Large groups of people do not claim to be genetically predisposed towards this behavior.

Maybe the reason why large groups of "anti-gay Christians" do not actively boycott menstrual sex is because the group in question has obfuscated their practices from the general populace.

If people did start having parades in support of menstrual sex, I would not be surprised if those same "anti-gay Christians" called "for schools to teach that menstrual sex is abnormal,...support the right to discriminate against people who practice menstrual sex, and...call for laws against this behavior."

The above is not to say that homosexuals or homosexuality should be shoved back into the closet. To do so would invalidate and destroy the progress made in the past century.

I just don't think that the parallel between homosexuality and menstrual sex is adequate enough to justify yet another attack on the hypocrisy of the fundamentalist Christian.

Sometimes repeatedly attacking a group of people with their own flaws does little to help the situation, and further widens the gap of hate. I don't want to sound completely non-confrontational, but I'd rather speak the words of Jesus to those who would follow his teachings, than bring up obscure dogma that doesn't get us any closer to common ground and an ideal peace.

To further drive your point home about the unfair comparison I made, you could point out that the Bible instructs one to kill homosexuals and only to exile those that engage in menstrual sex. Perhaps a fairer statement would be that if conservative Christians charted their ethics by the Bible instead of by convention, there would be state laws against menstrual sex at least as often as there are state laws against heterosexual sodomy (which is not forbidden in the Bible). And don't even get me started on rape.
